BOUNDARY LINE BETWEEN EASTERN AND CENTRAL ZONES.

Effective September 27, 1936 - July 23, 1961
In 1936 the Eastern Time boundary was extended to include the entire lower peninsula of Michigan and the entire state of Ohio. The State of Michigan had changed their law and officially followed Eastern Time (Eastern Time was commonly followed in Michigan despite the state law). The upper peninsula was not moved to Eastern Time due to ties to Wisconsin. (The City of Chicago also passed a law observing Eastern Time but their petition to change the boundary was denied due to the potential impact throughout the Midwest in Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana.)
